Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley fired the first shots over the bow of new Premier Danielle Smith’s ship of state Wednesday, demanding UCP MLAs who didn’t support the premier’s Alberta Sovereignty Act say no to the idea and jump ship.."I have written to every member of the UCP, we have asked them to oppose the Sovereignty Act in the legislature if they were speaking the truth on the leadership contest trail," Notley said during a press conference in Calgary.."The bottom line is they cannot allow this bill to pass. It is time to put province before the party and to do the right thing.". But Notley answers to the coalition through Singh. She must come out against the act (orders from Singh, through Trudeau?) and said at the presser she hoped enough UCP MLAs were willing to join the NDP in defeating the act.. But Dorothy’s friends save the day and she meets the Wizard..There is of course, more to Notley’s stance than the act. She’s focused on the Alberta election next year. With help from her ‘flying monkeys’ Singh and Trudeau, her intention is to pick away at the act and divide not just the UCP, but the entire conservative movement in Alberta. And come up the middle to win the election..Sadly, it could work..Conservatives, unfortunately, have a history of not always playing nice with each other. I attribute that to conservatives being more independent, wanting less government, not more..Most conservatives — especially those in politics — see themselves as leaders, often with differing platforms about government. Not at all like the NDP then, which is as much a cult as it is a political party. Members march in lock-step, wanting bigger governments, approaching socialism and unquestionably following the leaders’ orders..Justin Trudeau is hell-bent on returning Alberta to its dust bowl days of the Great Depression. Singh’s association with Trudeau suggests he is of the same mind as Trudeau and Notley takes her orders from him..Some may say that's a stretch. But when Notley and her gang held the reins of government in Alberta from 2015 to 2019, they did their best to destroy the Alberta economy and quality of life.. Accept them and turn to the bigger task..Smith must acknowledge it is imperative she seek the assistance of all conservatives in the province to keep the NDP from forming a government next year..Yes, there are conservative alternatives to the UCP, but the UCP is the only party with the power and wherewithal to defeat Notley’s socialists..Think of Smith as the cough medicine that bills itself as tasting awful, but it works.
