Albertans woke up last week to yet another insipid video of Justin Trudeau simpering his way through his ongoing excuses for continuing to violate the rights of citizens because “people are still dying from COVID-19”. The disease is now endemic. In the same way that people over 80 dying from four or five other things die from colds, flus and pneumonias, people over 80 will continue to die from COVID-19 while they are dying from their other “co-morbidities”. Trudeau is effectively saying that he will never allow the unvaccinated on to an airplane ever again..Trudeau further claims that having unvaccinated Canadians on his own personal no-fly list is rooted in science. Nothing could be further from the truth. Increasing data now indicates if you are unvaccinated, you are far less likely to be infected, infectious or hospitalized with COVID-19 than if you are double vaccinated and “boosted” with a third shot. It is likely for this reason that advanced western democracies like Denmark that follow the science have entirely discontinued the use of COVID-19 vaccines. Keep in mind that these vaccines were developed for a virus that has long since become extinct by having mutated out of existence..Trudeau is making the interference in the lives of law-abiding gun owners his priority. It is worth noting that Canadians are for the most part a very peaceful people. In 2020 Canada recorded a mere 743 homicides nationally. The Democrat controlled city of Chicago by comparison had 774 reported homicides in 2020. Being a relatively low-tech people, Canadians, stabbed, beat and strangled 396 people while only shooting 276..Firearm deaths rank near the absolute bottom of causes of death in Canada. People are not being unreasonable when they wonder if Trudeau’s anti-gun mania is really Trudeau trying to make Canada safer for the next time Trudeau invites the Chinese People’s Liberation Army into Canada to train them at our winter warfare training facility at Petawawa. .Nothing could make a stronger case for Alberta independence than the constant barrage of falsehoods, name calling and gas lighting coming from the Trudeau regime. The auditor general of Canada recently released a report that strongly criticized the Trudeau “Death to the Alberta Economy” by 2030 plan on the basis that all of the assumptions in that plan about the emergence of scalable hydrogen are simply wishful thinking..When Trudeau next flies his private jet over the indigenous people of Kamloops to land on the $10,000,000.00 runway extension he built with tax dollars to service his rich friends’ Tofino beach mansions, it’s unlikely that he will be flying using either hydrogen or electric power. He will be smugly puking Jet-A exhaust over the Pacific Rim coastal rain forest while congratulating himself for how wonderful he is..I recently heard a Liberal member of parliament brag about developing the “Green Energy Plan for Western Canada”. He said, “we learned in developing the Green Energy Plan that there is nothing that we can’t do with a barrel of canola oil that we can do with a barrel of petroleum.” Ignoring the fact that this simply isn’t true (think plastics), on the day that this benighted gentleman made this statement the spot price of a barrel of canola oil was $1,018!.When farmers can no longer afford fuel for their equipment or that fuel is unavailable due to rationing and shortages, it is doubtful that it will be Trudeau, Liberal members of parliament and all of their World Economic Forum buddies that will be the ones dining on crickets..Albertans need to fully internalize that the quickest and easiest way to end this foolishness is to have 50% plus one of us vote for independence in a referendum. Alberta is the only province in Canada that could leave without owing Canada a nickel. Since the 1960’s Alberta has contributed almost $700 billion to Canada in so called equalization. With compound interest being added, a good case can be made that Canada owes Alberta several trillion dollars upon our departure..Every year Alberta taxpayers contribute $60 billion in taxes to Ottawa while only having $27 billion returned to us. Albertans need to internalize how prosperous Alberta would be with $33 billion a year not leaving Alberta. Alberta could put $10 billion per year into refinery construction and end the need for oil to be piped out of the province while using pipelines to only ship refined products to market. Alberta could have a balanced budget, along with resource revenue sharing with Alberta’s indigenous people and a flat 10% personal income and corporate tax rate. Alberta would be at full employment within a year of ending all the crippling federal taxation and regulatory nonsense that stifles prosperity. Corporations and people would move to Alberta to share in our prosperity further fueling Alberta’s economic resurgence. Alberta would no longer be threatened by idiots wanting to lower the voting age to 16 so that teenagers could vote themselves the ability to drop out of school at the age of 17 and collect $2,000 a month for life, in the form of “Universal Basic Income”..Another major benefit of a yes vote would be that Alberta would get a new constitution. This could include an elected senate, and a separately elected legislature and executive with strong, grass roots, recall provisions..The day that Alberta declared its independence Alberta would vault to the position of having the highest GDP per capita of any country in the world. Albertans would all share in a prosperity that would be the envy the world..Guest columnist Jeffrey R.W. Rath is a constitutional lawyer and serves as Vice-President and General Counsel to the Alberta Prosperity Project
