My friend was distraught, she had reached the end of her rope and then some..I won’t go into details, but she and her children had suffered what she perceived was a great setback..I did my best, to try to cheer her up and restore her strength and explain that it wasn’t the end of the world … and really, it wasn’t..But hell, we’re all feeling it these days, aren’t we? Two years of COVID-19 madness has left us exhausted. It doesn’t take much to set us off, does it?.Tired of this pandemic, tired of masks, tired of rules, tired of our lives being determined by people who were never elected. Bureaucratic creatures who have crawled out of some evolutionary slime cave telling us what we can and can’t do..Go to hell, in a hand basket! Get thee behind me, Satan! To everyone and everything. Personally, I have had enough..And yes, all their cronies — the media talking heads who think they’re doing the right thing, but don’t know sh-t. Pretty faces pulling down big salaries while they scare the crap out of us every broadcast with COVID-19 stats..And then we have us … the “Canadian sheeple.” Following whatever they say, as our economy, our family structure, our life as we know it, crumbles around us..Well, let me tell you something..On my daughter’s fridge at her condo in Calgary is a quote. A quotation I gave her to live by when times got tough. Times like now..It’s from Rose Kennedy, the legendary matriarch of the Kennedy family — a woman so strong and intelligent, she raised four sons who changed the world..The quote reads: “There is no burden which cannot be carried.”.Think about that for a minute and then ponder your situation. What it means is that yes, we can get through this — we will get through this and to hell with all those people who think they know..They don’t. Nobody knows. So let’s let them think they’re important and wise and all that stuff, and just go our own way, as strong as the winds will carry us..I recently read these headlines in various online media outlets:.• A group of young kids from Montreal, on a Sunwing flight to Mexico, took off their masks and partied — Google the videos for yourself. Looked like a good time, actually..• Then there was Singapore low-cost carrier Scoot which is now carrying out an investigation after a video began circulating online which captured shirtless and maskless male passengers “partying” onboard what appears to be a Scoot flight..• And, of course, our Russian friends from the World Junior tournament who were returning home from Cowtown, but reportedly didn’t want to wear masks, were openly smoking and generally being stupid jerks..The IIHF is investigating and I sure hope NHL scouts have taken note and don’t draft any of these halfwits in future, unless they make restitution..And it goes on, Judah, it goes on. And it will go on..You know what? I don’t give a damn, I really don’t. Sure, fine the airline, hit the passengers with five-year travel bans, do what you have to do to set an example. Rules are rules..But I really hate to tell you this, you hot-head types: Canada is a democracy, or at least it’s supposed to be..This is not East-Bloc Germany, and you are not the Stasi. We have rights. Not many rights but yeah, that useless piece of paper called the Charter of Rights that Trudeau got for us, that CSIS the Mounties and their horses have trodden upon..What a joke. Our leadership, provincial and federal, has no more credibility than a $5 stripper from Montreal. (Trust me, I’ve been there.).It’s obvious. They don’t know what they’re doing..And they keep throwing up these so-called medical officials to tell us stuff — a bizarre COVID-19 firewall they can hide behind..Our leadership, as we know it, couldn’t find their ass with two hands. And I hate to tell you that, I really do..It’s every man, woman, cat, dog for himself now. It’s become an absurd theatre, the likes of Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty..To quote one scholar of French poet Antonin Artaud:.“It is the sense that there is no escape from it. If you are in the room, you’ll have the plague, you’re going to be infected by this energy, this destructive force. It doesn’t care who you are, you can be anybody and you can still be infected by it. The plague knows no social hierarchy or nationality or language barriers.“.And so we live in fear. We are bombarded with information, most of it useless. Leaders who extol examples they don’t follow..I don’t know about you, but I see it in people’s faces. The weariness of an unending war. I see it too in their children, who are being robbed of a proper childhood..Thank God for Rose Kennedy. She made more sense than all of these political clowns put together. And their puppets, the so-called medical experts..Hang in there, folks. We have a ways to go, I fear..Dave Makichuk is a Western Standard contributor. .,He has worked in the media for decades, including as an editor for the Calgary Herald.
