You heard it here first. “Gun-fugees.” And I heard it from our publisher who may well have coined a phrase and named a movement. .Who are the gun-fugees? They are people fleeing from central Canada to the West, where we still believe firearms should not be banned or confiscated, and that people have the right to self-defence. .Dismantle it, and they wlll come. .So far, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick and the Yukon territory have refused to implement Trudeau’s seizure of something called “assault-style” firearms — a moniker that can apply to just about anything Prime Minister Justin Trudeau desires. .He seems obsessed with clearing the country of guns and denying that right of self-defence. .As Guns.com noted: “…. We probably all know that gun ownership was illegal in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. That was one of the first things that Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin did upon seizing power. They gobbled up all the guns to ensure there would be no more revolutions. .We saw how quickly Trudeau reacted to unarmed protesters in Ottawa. He invoked the Emergencies [War Measures] Act, froze bank accounts, watched while demonstrators and journalists were injured by police and a grandmother named Tamara Lich was imprisoned without bail. .It is true that gun ownership is not protected by the Canadian Constitution or the Charter of Rights. We have no Second Amendment ensuring the right to bear arms like they cherish in the United States. But to hear Trudeau hold forth on abortion — something he like to call “reproductive rights” — you would think that was guaranteed by the Constitution and it is not. .What is especially chilling is the story of Montreal Canadiens hockey player Carey Price who dared to declare his opposition to Trudeau’s gun control measures but he was publicly shamed into apologizing because he made the comments around the time of the anniversary of the 1989 Montreal Polytechnique shooting. ."On Saturday, Carey Price posted a statement in support of the CCFR's opposition to proposed federal gun control legislation. As previously stated, Carey was unaware of the CCFR's recent marketing campaign nor was he aware of the unfortunate timing of his statement," the Canadiens said in a statement Monday. "The Montreal Canadiens wish to express their sincere apology to any and all who have been offended or upset by the discourse that has arisen over this matter in recent days." .Do I have to check the calendar from now on before I make a political statement? .This is so strikingly Stalinist. Doesn’t this remind one of the Soviet show trials where innocent people had to confess to being “wreckers” or spies, and beg for the forgiveness of the state? Of course these confessions were extracted after hours of torture and the promise that the accused family members might not be shot in the back of the head too. Now Price wasn’t subject to any torture but he was publicly humiliated and made to look like a half-witted neanderthal who is noxiously ignorant of gun violence. .But if you want to keep your job, you have to swallow your pride and your freedom of speech. .So, Price made his decision but just watch how thousands of others will make another decision and go to a province where they can still own a hunting rifle and defend their lives. .Running parallel with Alberta’s opposition to the gun seizure is the Alberta Sovereignty Act, a truly revolutionary document. .Look for other provinces to follow suit and walk in the footsteps of courageous Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
