Every once in a while in the business of being a columnist, you get to see your prescient words fulfilled before you and think perhaps you might know what you’re talking about. .Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been wrong before. I predicted Danielle Smith would be the premier of Alberta but as the leader of the Wildrose Party. I said Jason Kenney would never be the premier of Alberta and should have stayed in Ottawa with the federal Conservative Party of Canada..Well, maybe I wasn’t so wrong at that. .But I was definitely correct in saying that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau showed monumental stupidity in refusing to sell Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) to Germany because he couldn’t justify a “business case” for it. .At the time, I wrote in the Western Standard, “Only a congenital idiot or an ideological fool would make that kind of statement. There is a billion-dollar business case in that deal and Canada is going to lose a piece of its auto sector in the process.” .Seems like Germany just went ahead and proved Trudeau wrong by building its first floating gas terminal that will help it survive the winter months after losing shipments of Russian oil. At the opening of the LNG terminal last weekend, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted how quickly the Germans were able to build the terminal. It was a lot swifter than Trudeau’s ability to make a sound economic decision. ."Many said it would be impossible to get it built this year. When we work together we can do things at great speed: that's Germany's new tempo," he said. .Last August, when Trudeau declared that there “has never been a strong business case” for selling LNG to the Germans, I wrote in the Western Standard, “Only a congenital idiot or an ideological fool would make that kind of statement. There is a billion-dollar business case in that deal and Canada is going to lose a piece of its auto sector in the process.” .Don’t misunderstand, it required no abundance of perspicacity on my part to condemn Trudeau’s titanic mistake. What is amazing is that this man continues to lead Canada. .You can eviscerate Trudeau on a variety of issues. You can disagree with his authoritarian hunger to destroy free speech in Canada or his fondness for crushing dissent he doesn’t agree with while kneeling to the likes of Black Lives Matter. .But poor economic decisions are something that are really apolitical. He hurts all Canadians by deciding not to sell our natural gas to Europe, while putting insane caps on the domestic — read Albertan — energy industry. .And the hypocrisy of it all. Trudeau is always yammering about how Europe should be holding up its end in its opposition to Russia’s war in Ukraine and yet this prime minister couldn’t even sell Germany natural gas. .Obviously, Trudeau’s decision was based on blind allegiance to a made-in-Canada Green New Deal that he insists upon imposing on Canadians — except himself of course. Trudeau continues to jet around the world, increasing his carbon footprint to an enormous size. .Does he believe any of this, or is he merely playing the political game?.You see, when you’re desperate, you will reach for virtually anything and while Trudeau is not very good at governing, he is exceptional at distracting and scapegoating. .His principal scapegoats are those unvaccinated from COVID-19 and those who dare question the climate change hysteria. .You have to admit that Trudeau is a man on a mission. But with a legacy that includes media control and censorship; carbon taxes and billions for climate change; a private life of blackface and public sermons on racism you have to think that mission is to destroy Canada.
