Don’t look now but according to a new report from a group of so-called national security experts, Canada is not ready for the threats posed by Russia, China — and Fox News..No, I’m not making this up. Despite billions of dollars in property damage inflicted by leftist groups like Black Lives Matter and Antifa and their threats to kill police officers, these twits decided to focus on a media outlet that actually reports the news and isn’t afraid to ridicule Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a blatant hypocrite who talks democratic freedom while crushing a trucker protest in Ottawa; who blames pervasive racism for his side-show blackface career..I wonder how they got on the PM’s enemies list?.The frightening thing is that one of the authors of “A National Security Strategy for the 2022s” was a national security advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his views undoubtedly reflect those of Trudeau..“We are living in a time of intense global instability when the security of Canada and other liberal democracies is under growing threat,” says the report, which was released Tuesday..“Canada is not ready to face this world. As a country, we need to urgently rethink national security.”.This conclusion was reached by a panel that included four former national security advisers, two Canadian Security Intelligence Service directors, academics and retired ambassadors and deputy ministers..The report is little more than the old “third way” argument that essentially always argued Canada should eschew close relations with the United States because of its vital role in the Cold War and its potential to be locked in nuclear combat with the Soviet Union. Of course that was a leftist pipe dream when liberal academics embraced it decades ago and it is equally simple-minded today when these cloistered intellectuals think Canada can reassess our relationship to our neighbor to the south. The only difference is today these same left-wing thinkers now view “right-wing extremism” that is apparently running rampant in the United States as a grave danger to Canada..They argue this growing fascism is being fueled by conservative news outlets like Fox News. ."The United States is and will remain our closest ally, but it could also become a source of threat and instability," the report reads.."We believe the threats are quite serious at the moment, that they do impact Canada," said report co-author Vincent Rigby, who only recently left his job as the national security adviser to Trudeau ."We don't want it to take a crisis for [the] government of Canada to wake up.".The report he helped write says one area in need of a policy pivot is Canada's relationship with the United States..Another of the usual suspects in the report is Thomas Juneau, co-director of the task force and associate professor at the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa..Juneau is deeply troubled about right-wing extremism in Canada that is cross-fertilizing with U.S. groups.."There are growing transnational ties between right-wing extremists here and in the U.S., the movement of funds, the movement of people, the movement of ideas, the encouragement, the support by media, such as Fox News and other conservative media," he said.."This may not have represented foreign interference in the conventional sense, since it was not the result of actions of a foreign government, but it did represent, arguably, a greater threat to Canadian democracy than the actions of any state other than the United States," the report says.."It will be a significant challenge for our national security and intelligence agencies to monitor this threat, since it emanates from the same country that is by far our greatest source of intelligence.".So why are we seeing this report and why are we seeing it now? The Trudeau government is desperate — absolutely desperate — to justify invoking the Emergencies Act and here they have a report that has apparently come to its rescue as if from heaven. It doesn’t matter that this is hardly an objective analysis; that it reflects the mindset precisely of the Trudeau government and its obsession with white supremacists under every bed perpetuating the illusion there is even a remote danger right-wing extremism could somehow become an actual political threat..This is all about suggesting the Freedom Convoy had something to do with right-wing extremism and white supremacy — as Trudeau absurdly suggested it did — in order to justify its annihilation by government storm troopers. .And how does Fox News pose a threat to democracy or Canada because it doesn’t regurgitate Canadian government talking points? The best response to this suggestion is to say God damn these myopic policy dweebs who have spent their careers drinking at the stream of the liberal hegemonic discourse and then spew it back on their hapless students. .Fox News is an alternative that Canada lacks in terms of efficacy and delivery. Instead we have state media and state-sponsored media that reported the release of the above report without any rebuttal. One outlet actually pointed to Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight as evidence that the network was promoting extremist views by saying the most popular cable news show on television was guilty of expounding the “Great Replacement Theory” that argues white people are being deliberately replaced by other races. That accusation of course is not just false and stupid, it might well be libelous because Carlson has never peddled any racist conspiracies on his show. But the CBC blandly passes on the charge like it has been long settled..The Trudeau government is intently serious about censoring the internet, banning disinformation and hate speech that reserves the right to define and buying-off the mainstream media with silence money. You bet they would love to ban Fox News from Canada’s airwaves. .The CBC would love that too because it knows it’s only a matter of time before it has its government funding terminated.
