As the Western Standard continues to evolve and grow, we are bringing in new blood to one of our most senior positions. I am excited to announce that Nigel Hannaford will be the Western Standard's new Opinion Editor, effective August 23. .Nigel will bring a wealth of experience to his new role here. He has been a senior columnist and a member of the editorial board at the Calgary Herald, and managed a number of regional newspapers in Western Canada. He also served as the chief speech writer to Stephen Harper from 2006 until 2015. .Nigel is a major figure in the Canadian media landscape, and I am excited to see what he will do with the opinion section of the Western Standard. In that role, he will write a regular column, and oversee all of our other opinion columnists. I expect him to bring a new gravitas and wisdom to this important part of our publication..Cory Morgan will be transitioning in his role as opinion editor to that of senior Alberta columnist. He has been with the Western Standard — in one form or another — since relatively early in our first year of operations. He has served the Western Standard's readers ably and loyally. He oversaw the massive expansion of our digital broadcast productions, and has been a real asset here..Our readers love him, or love to hate him. And that's really Cory in a nutshell. We wish him all the best, and look forward to his contributions as a senior columnist going forward.
