A teachers union in the United States — the National Education Association — (NEA) proposed a resolution that would reject the word "mother" in contracts in favour of "birthing parent.".The proposal's intent is to be inclusive to the LGBTQIA+ community..NEA's resolutions — new business items (NBIs) — indicate the teachers' unions evolving opinions and convictions..Resolution NBI 63 on the LGBTQIA+ language change was ultimately not brought to a vote.."Using this contract language, members need not worry about how a Board of Education [or] solicitor defines ‘maternity leave,’ ‘mother,' and/or ‘father’ — the language is an inclusive reflection of how LGBTQIA+ members build families," the proposed resolution said..According to professional publication Education Week, it takes 50 delegate sponsors to bring an NBI to debate preceding a vote..Tiffany Justice of Moms for Liberty told Fox News Digital that she's given the NEA the moniker "K-12 Cartel" since she feels they are holding parents and children hostage to a radical agenda.."We believe in American teachers, and we don't believe the lack of focus the union has on children is represented," she said.."Normal people don't use the term ‘chestfeeding’ or ‘birthing person,’ or any of this stuff," Nicole Neily of Parents Defending Education said. "I think it just further underscores how completely out of touch the teachers' unions … are from the concerns of normal parents."."It's horrifying," she said to Fox News Digital..Elana Fishbein from No Left Turn in Education said the proposed resolution represents how the left wants to destroy the family.."They are arrogant. They are dismissive of the family — the parents. It's beyond Orwellian. Even in science fiction, I don't know if you can have such a script of complete destruction of human society," she said..Becky Pringle, NEA president, its new task force aims to address emerging challenges faced by its education community..“Our public schools should inspire imagination, cultivate critical thinking, and ensure that all students — regardless of their race, background, or ZIP code, can pursue their dreams. Representative Assembly delegates today approved the new NEA policy on safe, just, and equitable public schools, which cements the association’s vision of schools as thriving spaces that are safe and welcoming for all students, discriminatory toward none” Pringle said..“It aims to integrate the social, emotional, and physical needs of the whole student, and provide services that support students throughout the school day, and beyond.”.“The new policy also meets the present moment and the challenges facing our students, educators, and communities. It sets as our North Star for achieving our vision of safe, just, and equitable public schools by prescribing ways in which students and educators can flourish and eliminate the obstacles and policies that harm students and impede their success.”.Its July 4th press release says the NEA is “engaging with national partners, organizations, parents, community allies, and racial and social justice stakeholders to advocate for safe, just, and equitable public schools for all students.”.The union said it would demonstrate its determination to defeat the legislation by "publicizing [its] support of and participation in mass actions for LGBT rights and Pride.".The NEA also said it would encourage members to participate in protests aimed at defending the rights of the LGBTQ community..The Western Standard reached out to the NEA for comment, but had not received a response by press time.
