A 30-year-old Welsh man lost custody of his five-year-old daughter after he used his Amazon Alexa to babysit her while he went out to the pub. .The Mirror reported the man, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, left the girl at home alone to sleep and watched her using the app on his cellphone. .A magistrates court in Llandrindod Wells, Wales, heard he left his daughter at home in August at 8 p.m. while he was supposed to be looking after her. .He was discovered to have been using a virtual assistant after being arrested by police for strangling his partner after drinking alcohol. .A neighbour was alerted by screaming in the garden around 2 a.m. A police officer arrived around 2:10 a.m. to find the couple fighting before separating them. .Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Stephen Davies said the defendant and his girlfriend had known each other for about seven months before the incident. ."The female had been drinking on the day and he was with her,” said Davies. .“She went out about 8 p.m. as did he.”.Davies said the couple “went to a number of pubs and she says she can’t remember anything until he was strangling her.” He added the man’s girlfriend does not recall how she arrived home. ."The police were called and marks were noticed on her neck,” he said. .“She said the child had been left in the house for a short period of time.".The man's defence lawyer Gareth Walters described his client as a "young man of previous good character.” He entered guilty pleas to serious offences.
