Global News reporter Rachel Gilmore became emotional about the death threats and hateful comments she receives every day. .“I’m a female reporter and I have been receiving death threats for months now,” said Gilmore in a Tuesday video. .“My DMs (direct messages), my replies on Twitter, my emails, this is what they look like every day.” .She included a photo of an Instagram direct message she received from a user saying he will kill her, so she should watch her back in public. .Gilmore said it is not limited to her. She said people are “targeting female and especially women of colour journalists, trying to silence our voices.” .Her colleagues Erica Ifill and Saba Eitizaz and she have reported the messages to police. Police have not taken action over the messages. .She said Ifill, Eitizaz, and she have been told their photos were plastered to a garage, and people were deciding who to kill first. Since she was told she was being stalked, she said does not “feel safe leaving my house anymore.” .Gilmore said there is racist, misogynistic, disgusting, and threatening language in all of the messages. She said the free press is under attack. .“And people need to pay attention and do something about it, or one of us will get killed,” she said. .Former People’s Party of Canada candidate Greg Wycliffe (Parkdale-High Park, ON) said facts matter. .“How do we know these death threats are credible?” said Wycliffe. .“You or a friend could easily be sending these threats to yourself from sock-puppet email accounts — This would take five minutes to do.”.Post Millennial editor-in-chief Libby Emmons mocked Gilmore by saying she could prevent herself from being inundated with nasty messages. .“Have you thought about closing your DMs?” said Emmons. .Gilmore did not speak up when Rebel News reporter Alexa Lavoie was struck and injured by police while covering the Freedom Convoy in February. ."She tells me a cop hit her three times with a club and then shot a tear gas canister at her leg from point-blank range," said Rebel News publisher Ezra Levant. .“[Justin] Trudeau has instructed his police to attack journalists." .Gilmore was silent when Parliamentary Press Gallery executives accompanied by armed police evicted Blacklock’s Reporter from the National Press Building on Friday. .READ MORE: Blacklock's Reporter is evicted from press gallery.Blacklock’s Reporter said the eviction — the first of its kind in the history of the National Press Building — was clear reprisal over its continued protests against media subsidies..The complaints were made by Canadian Press reporters Emilie Bergeron and Michel Saba and freelance journalist Helene Buzzetti.
