Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said the liquor tax is costing Canadians too much and promised to lower it to help them out. .“So if you’re tired of paying high carbon tax and high payroll tax and other tax increases that (Justin) Trudeau has imposed and it’s enough to drive you to drink, well you go out and buy a beer and what do you know,” said Poilievre in a Sunday video. .“You’re spending even more tax on that, too.” .Poilievre started off the video by saying he was going to teach people how to pour an espresso beer at Moosehead Small Batch Brewery in Saint John, NB. He was pouring the beers for Conservative MPs John Williamson and Jake Stewart. .Poilievre washed out the glass for four seconds. He turned it over. .He pulled the lever over on a slight angle. The beer came out fast and had too much foam. .Poilievre gave the beer to Stewart. He said he would do better in the second round. .The second beer came out no better. He gave the beer to Williamson. .Williamson and Stewart went cheers. Poilievre grabbed a perfect beer and said his looked better. .He continued by saying it was intentional why he poured the beer wrong. In fact, he said more than half “or the part represented by the foam, actually goes to taxes.” .He went on to say he poured the beer this way “so that you would understand that in fact, you’re not spending your money on beer, you’re spending it on government.” Liquor taxes go up each year through the escalator. .He asked Williamson when the escalator kicks in for 2023. Williamson said April 1. .A Poilievre government will cap government spending, cut government waste, and tax less. It will stop raising taxes on beer, scrap the carbon tax, and let people keep more of their money. .“You deserve a break, and you deserve to sit down at the end of a long day when you’ve done a lot of hard work and have a cold drink to warm your spirits and have one that is better poured than either of these,” said Poilievre.
