Around 1,000 people gathered for the One Million March for Children at the Harry Hays Building in Calgary to demonstrate for parental rights. .“With the lion united, you better hide,” said One Million March organizer Mahmoud Mourra at the Wednesday event. .“Leave our kids alone.” .The protest involved people rallying in front of the Harry Hays Building, but they marched to and from the Calgary Municipal Building twice. Protestors waved Canadian and Albertan flags and held signs with messages such as “We have the right to refuse what our kids are exposed to” and “Let kids be kids.” .Protestors did chants such as “Leave our kids alone” and “Our kids, our rights.” While they were diverse, many of them who showed up were Muslims. .About 100 counterprotestors stood across the street in front of the Delta Hotels Calgary Downtown to offer support to sexual minorities. The counterprotestors waved pro-sexual minority flags and held signs with messages such as “Stop the hate” and “Trans rights are human rights.” .They mocked the protestors for believing in God. When a protestor sang O Canada, they booed him. .The Western Standard attempted to speak with the counterprotestors, but was confronted by counterprotestor James Demers calling it a Nazi newspaper while trying to get close to them. .“He doesn’t exist,” said Demers. .“Get in front of his camera as much as you can.” .Mourra said he organized the One Million March with support from his fellow Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs. He added he worked with “every race, every faith, that stood up together to protect our kids from that SOGI (sexual orientation gender identity) ideology taking place and poisoning our kids in schools.” .While he was happy when the Saskatchewan government mandated parental consent for gender changes in schools, he said he is sad now. If they do not want to, they can choose to have their children not participate. .Protestor Tanner Williams said while he does not have children, gender ideology "is one of the biggest issues keeping me from thinking about having kids in all seriousness, because it worries me about what I would be bringing my kids into.” .“I’m not opposed to it entirely,” said Williams. .“I think what they’re doing right now is indoctrinating younger and younger students and younger and younger people who of course have more and more impressionable minds.” .If gender ideology is a topic added into universities, he said it is a different story.
