A Calgary woman savaged by a coyote blames a “namby-pamby, wishy-washy attitude” for letting its population get out of control in the city..Animal control officers are now on the hunt for the coyote with aims of “dispatching it with a firearm.”.Heather Robinson was sitting on her porch Sunday night about 11 p.m., talking on the phone with her sister, when the unprovoked attacked happened..“I wasn’t really paying attention when a coyote ran up and grabbed my leg biting it deeply,” a still shaken Robinson told the Western Standard on Monday..“I looked up, straight into its crazy, scary eyes.”.Robinson, stood up, not realizing the coyote had bit her a second time and screamed at it until it dashed off..She described the animal as “sickly, very skinny and mangy..“I live next to a kids park. It’s disturbing to me because if it had attacked a child they likely would have been killed, or seriously injured,” said Robinson..Her sister, who heard the commotion on the other end of the phone, quickly arrived and the pair went to Foothills hospital. There they discovered two other people who had been bitten close by, likely by the same coyote..There were so many victims, said Robinson, the Foothills ran out of their rabies vaccine kits and had to bring in some from the Sheldon Chumir Centre..Doctors gave her a tetanus shot and an additional dozen needles around the wound. Two other shots in the future are planned..Robinson is disappointed no one from the city has contacted her, despite calling 811 and telling them of the attack..“This one has tasted blood and needs to be put down. Hopefully it’s next victim isn’t a child,” she said..“This has been allowed to get out of control by namby-pamby, wishy-washy thinking (on animals being culled). They need to be controlled.”.Lincoln Julie, Calgary Parks Integrated Pest Management lead, said there was another attack in the area on June 23..Experts have been brought in who have figured out the path the coyote’s path and are lying in waiting for it..Dave Naylor is the News Editor of the Western Standard.,dnaylor@westernstandardonline.com,.Twitter.com/nobby7694
