On Monday at 4:10 pm, the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) was notified of a possible explosive device at the University of Saskatchewan (USask.).The SPS media release said with help from USask staff and the USask Protective Services, the SPS evacuated and then searched the campus..“With assistance from staff at the University and members of the U of S Protective Services, the SPS began evacuating and searching areas of interest on campus,” said the SPS release..St. Thomas More College was evacuated immediately followed by the Health Sciences building, Murray Library, Place Riel, and Memorial Union building..The SPS put in traffic restrictions along College Drive between Clarence Avenue South and Preston Avenue North..After the search by SPS Patrol, the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and the Canine Unit investigated the area, attempting to find any other explosive devices..A male was apprehended but later released with no charges..“A suspicious male at the scene was taken into custody and later released with no charges,” said the SPS..The suspicious backpack was found and checked for explosives. It was clean..“A backpack was also identified as suspicious and was examined by the EDU.
