Two polar bears have touched down at the Calgary Zoo with some help from WestJet Cargo. “Polar bears, ‘Baffin’ and ‘Siku,’ journeyed from their prior home at Assiniboine Park Zoo (APZ) in Winnipeg to their new home here at the zoo, along with an Animal Care, Health and Welfare team member from both the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and APZ,” said the Calgary Zoo in a Monday Facebook post. “With WestJet Cargo’s high standard of care in going above and beyond to provide safe and reliable transport services, we knew our precious cargo was in good hands.” .It added they are settling in well and are spending time exploring their new home in the Taylor Family Foundation Polar Bear Sanctuary. Over the next several weeks, they will continue to spend time in the courtyard and main habitat as they continue to familiarize themselves with the space and begin to build trust with their care team. The Calgary Zoo concluded by saying it “can’t wait to introduce you to these two Arctic icons.” “Find yourself in their world when Wild Canada opens on December 1st,” it said. The Calgary Zoo announced in July two male polar bears from APZ will be transferred to Calgary's new polar habitat this fall as part of the redeveloped Wild Canada zone.
