After months of vilifying and demonizing Canadians who chose not to get vaccinated, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seems to have finally changed his tune.."Each of us in positions of authority or power, need to make sure that we are not inciting or encouraging anger or frustrations, but actually putting forward real and concrete solutions that are gonna bring people along and see themselves in the future the world is creating," Trudeau said during a press conference on Tuesday.."It's a time for responsible leadership. It's time for people to assuage fear and angers and respond with a positive vision for the future," Trudeau said on Tuesday when asked about what was behind the rise in threats towards politicians..It was not immediately clear if the prime minister was referring to his statement in December 2021 that unvaccinated Canadians are often "misogynistic" and "racists," and asked "do we tolerate these people?".It was also not apparent if Trudeau was attempting to apologize for his comments in February 2022, when he said Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, "stands with people who wave swastikas," by supporting the Freedom Convoy..In response to a reporter's question on why verbal abuse towards politicians has been increasing, Trudeau said the pandemic, economic transformations, drug addiction problems, and anxiety around climate change were to blame.."It's a lot of pressure for a lot of people, and unfortunately there are no easy solutions for all these challenges we're facing," he said. "It's going to take hard work, people listening to each other, orders of government stepping up and delivering for people.".Trudeau added that politicians, community leaders and institutions are focused on supporting each other. "Canada made it through this pandemic better than most places in the world, because Canadians do a really good job of being there for each other."
