Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Papineau, Que.) repeatedly called for Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre (Carleton, ON.) to apologize for using hashtags on Youtube to court members of the 'Men Going Their Own Way' (MGTOW) movement..Poilievre began Question Period by talking about the rising cost of food as Thanksgiving approaches. Trudeau responded Canadians are struggling with the "global" inflation crisis, which is why the federal government is giving out a GST rebate. ."But there is another important issue that's on Canadians', particularly Canadian women's, minds as we meet here," Trudeau said. "If it were not for Global News, we would not have learned that the Conservative leader has been purposefully using his videos to appeal to far-right, misogynistic online movements," he said..Global News reported on Thursday that on Youtube, Poilievre used the hashtag #mgtow to promote his videos to those online circles. Poilievre’s office said the Conservative leader was unaware the embedded tags existed for the last four and-a-half years..MGTOW believes with the rise of feminism — as well as governments and courts of law prioritizing the rights of women — men should leave traditional concepts of marriage and female partnerships behind in favour of solitary lives. The movement has been described as anti-feminist, misogynistic, and tied to the far-right.."Anti-women movements and have devastating real life consequences. Mr. Speaker, I call on the Conservative leader to stand in this House, take responsibility and apologize," Trudeau said..The Liberal MPs in the House clapped for over 15 seconds following Trudeau's question..Poilievre said he "condemned" the organization and he "corrected the problem as soon as it became known to me."."But I condemn all forms of misogyny, including when the prime minister fired the very first female and indigenous attorney," Poilievre said. "I condemn when he mistreated minority women in his own caucus who had to leave politics, and I condemn him for when he dressed up in racist costume so many times that he forgot them all.".Trudeau responded that Poilievre reached out to extremist online groups "for his own political gain." He added Canadian women want to know why Poilievre allowed that to happen, and when he will take responsibility.."I took full responsibility and corrected it as soon as it became known to me," Poilievre said. "[Trudeau] funded a vicious antisemite to spread hatred online with taxpayer's dollars.".He was referencing Laith Marouf, a senior consultant on an anti-racism project who received $133,000 from the federal government, who made antisemitic comments on several occasions. ."And he drove many women out of his own caucus, out of the party, and out of Parliament all together with his mistreatment of them. We condemn all that behavior," Poilievre said..The prime minister said Poilievre became leader of the opposition by deliberately reaching out to far-right organizations, "including hateful anti-women organizations," to advance his own political agenda.."He has played too closely aligned with extremists for too long. Now he's got caught will he admitted will he apologize really take responsibility?" Trudeau said..During the exchange, several Liberal MP could be heard yelling out for Poilievre to apologize.
