Mounties are looking for public help in finding the people responsible for mowing down Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum over the weekend..In a statement to @NEWS1130, McCallum said he’s recovering after an aggressive incident Saturday that saw him verbally assaulted and then run over by a vehicle while the mayor was grocery shopping..Unconfirmed reports suggest he was confronted by a group of pro-RCMP organizers at a protest, but McCallum said he’s fine, and the incident is now under police investigation..Surrey is in the process of transitioning from the RCMP to a municipal force. It’s a plan that has divided the community and has passionate supporters on both sides..Surrey RCMP is requesting anyone with information, dash camera footage or witnessed an altercation involving McCallum and a Gray Ford Mustang at a “Keep the RCMP in Surrey” gathering at Save on Foods located at 3033 152 St., Sept. 4 about 12:30 p.m. to give them a shout.
