Former Ontario Liberal Party Leader Steven Del Duca wants to become the next mayor of Vaughan, Ontario..“Over the past two months, I have reflected a great deal on my personal future and have taken the time to consider how best to continue to serve the community that I love,” Del Duca said in a press release on Tuesday..“I believe passionately in public service and I feel that I have a responsibility to give back. I am running for mayor and humbly asking for support to continue providing Vaughan residents with stable, thoughtful and progressive leadership at city hall.”.Del Duca resigned as leader of the Ontario Liberal Party in June, after they won just eight seats in the provincial election. The party once again failed to secure official party status, and Del Duca was unable to win in his own riding of Vaughan-Woodbridge..But Del Duca said he has reflected "a great deal" over the past two months, deciding that running as mayor would be the best way to give back to his community. Del Duca, who lives in Woodbridge with his wife and two daughters, said his top priority is fixing Vaughan's traffic issues..“Vaughan has experienced explosive population growth over the years and it’s been hard for our transportation network to keep up,” he said. “The result is obvious and brutal — more of our residents are stuck in traffic every single day — wasting their precious time, while both our economy and our environment suffer.”.In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Del Duca said he will bring together his skills and political experience to "get Vaughan moving.".The former Ontario Liberal leader told CBC News he is "really excited about the race" and will take nothing for granted.."I'm just going to work really, really hard. I do love this community and I am absolutely passionate about public service."
