The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at the South Calgary Health Centre (SCHC) will be changing its hours for patient intake from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. effective Tuesday. .“New patients will not be admitted to the UCC after 8 p.m. and those remaining in the department at that time will be treated according to their needs,” said Alberta Health Services (AHS) in a Tuesday statement. .The statement said this change will ensure care can continue to be provided at the UCC with the current number of staff. SCHC is going through staffing shortages. .When the UCC is busy, the statement said staff might redirect or transfer new patients to other healthcare facilities up to two hours before closing to allow existing patients to be provided with the required treatment. .AHS asked people to come as far in advance to closing time to provide for adequate time for investigation, treatment, and discharge planning. .“All patients that require non-urgent care and treatment after 8 p.m. are asked to look at other care options, including making an appointment with your family physician, or visiting a walk-in or family care clinic,” said AHS. .“Individuals should proceed to their closest Emergency Department or call 911 in an emergency.”.AHS announced on July 21 the urgent care centre at the Airdrie Community Health Centre will be closed overnights from Friday to Sunday for eight weeks because of gaps in medical coverage. .READ MORE: Airdrie urgent care unit to close on weekend nights for two months.“All patients in need of emergency care will receive it,” said AHS Calgary Zone. .“Patients presenting to the Urgent Care Centre during the closure will be assessed, triaged and referred to alternative sites or to local medical clinics for follow up, depending on their needs.”
