Peachland, BC, resident Rick Kaminski will be moving his mother Florence from her assisted living facility in Calgary effective December 17 after unexpected price jumps. .“It pains me to have to move my 94-year-old mother at this point in her confused life,” said Rick in a letter. .“Her safety is my main concern and due to your changes, such as no evening checks and the doubling of memory care for residents with no additional staff, compromise her safety within your premises.".Rick demanded answers on October 19 after Florence’s care home in Calgary saw unexpected price increases. .READ MORE: Son furious after Calgary assisted living facility doubles prices for mom.He negotiated for her to stay at Revera Evergreen for $2,800 per month. He requested a copy of the fee structure, but Revera refused to give it to him because it is a private facility and competitive industry. .The living arrangements were going fine until Rick received an email in May outlining how the facility planned on doubling his mother’s fees to $5,600 per month. He was ordered to pay $9,000 in back billing. .Rick said it's impossible to keep Florence in Revera because of “degrading food quantities and quality, unhappy over-stressed staff, and the general unhealthy working environment together with your clandestine billing format.”.He said it is disgusting and unacceptable for them to charge by the minute for comforting and holding the hands of dementia patients. .The letter said he will never recommend a Revera facility to anyone. It said he will continue to pursue this matter to ensure people are protected from its billing practices. .“Revera Inc. is clearly driven by profit and has no business being accredited in elderly care,” he said. .Revera could not be reached for comment.
