It looks as though the honeymoon may be over for the Liberal-NDP alliance as NDP leader Jagmeet Singh calls out Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying he “pretends to be a climate leader.”.The federal government released its Emissions Reduction Plan in the House of Commons on Tuesday which would cap oil and gas sector emissions to achieve net-zero by 2050. The plan would also see a 75% reduction in oil and gas methane emissions by 2030..“The climate crisis is putting everything we value at risk,” said NDP leader Jagmeet Singh in a tweet..“Wildfires, flooding and extreme weather are getting more frequent and severe. For the last six years, Liberals have handed out billions to Big Oil.”.Singh said Trudeau’s emissions reduction plan tabled on Tuesday isn’t strong enough and said his party will work to “deliver stronger climate action.”.“Join us in demanding Liberals eliminate fossil fuel subsidies to Big Oil by the end of 2022,” Singh said..A link to an NDP petition is included in the tweet..“Mr. Trudeau pretends to be a climate leader, but provides more public financial handouts to big oil than any other country in the G20,” the petition reads accusing the Liberal government of nearly $14 billion in handouts each year..The petition calls on Canadians to join Jagmeet in pushing Trudeau to end fossil fuel subsidies by the end of 2022 and move towards subsidizing renewable energy..Trudeau and Singh shook hands on an agreement just over one week ago that would see the NDP support the Liberal government’s priorities until 2025.
