Porter said he is "appalled by the recent reports.".Recently, the federal government froze public funding to Hockey Canada in response to its handling of an alleged sexual assault and settlement. Now, Scotiabank is also "pausing" its funding to the national sport organization.."Today, we have made the decision to pause our sponsorship of Hockey Canada until we are confident the right steps are being taken to improve the culture within the sport — both on and off the ice," Porter wrote in the letter..Porter also said planned marketing and events at the world juniors in August will be cancelled. Scotiabank will redirect the investment into other programs..Porter said Scotiabank will fully cooperate with the federal government's audit of Hockey Canada to make sure Scotiabank funds provided were "used as intended."."The time for change is long overdue," Porter said in the letter.."We call on Hockey Canada to move with a sense of urgency in order to ensure that the game we love is held to the highest standards."
