A recording of a conference with the RCMP commissioner that sparked concerns of political interference into the Nova Scotia mass killing RCMP investigation was deleted, according to one of Canada's top Mounties..Deputy Commissioner Brian Brennan testified last Friday about the recording before the Mass Casualty Commission leading the public inquiry into the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shootings. He said Dan Brien, director of media relations with the RCMP, recorded at least some of the April 28, 2020 phone call with Commissioner Brenda Lucki and other high-ranking Nova Scotia RCMP officers and civilian staff..Brennan said he was aware of an internal RCMP investigation into where the recording was and whether it could be retrieved, but has been told the recording is gone.."It doesn't exist because Mr. Brien has deleted it from whatever phone he was using," Brennan said..It is unclear exactly what transpired during that April 28 phone call. Four Nova Scotia RCMP team members told the commission Lucki was angry details about the gunman's firearms were not released at a news conference earlier that day..According to Chief Supt. Darren Campbell's notes from that day, Lucki promised the minister of public safety and the Prime Minister's Office the RCMP would release the details before the Liberal government introduced gun control legislation..But Brennan told the commission he didn't remember firearms legislation being mentioned during the call. .Lucki said Bill Blair, then Public Safety minister, never directed or ordered her to disclose the makes and models of the guns. Blair said the same thing..The Mass Casualty Commission continues to follow up with the Attorney General of Canada about "whether such a recording still exists, and if so to obtain a copy," according to investigations director Barbara McLean..On Wednesday, Raquel Dancho, shadow minister for public safety, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Quebec lieutenant, said the Liberal government "doesn't want Canadians to know the full story" about its political interference into the Nova Scotia mass killing RCMP investigation..“Now we are learning that a Liberal insider who was present during this scandal has destroyed evidence that implicates his former Liberal bosses. This is the definition of a coverup," they said..Dancho and Paul-Hus said the Liberals have a pattern of denying, blaming others, blocking witnesses and covering up their misdeeds. “We know the Liberal government doesn’t want Canadians to have more proof RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki promised her Liberal masters that sensitive information about the ongoing investigation would be released to further the government’s political agenda," they added..They said Canadians deserve better than the Liberals' "cloak and dagger" approach..“Conservatives will fight to ensure we get to the truth and hear from all involved, right up to the Prime Minister’s Office. This cover-up must not continue any longer.”
