Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre drew a huge, adoring crowd Tuesday night at Calgary’s Spruce Meadows..As many as 5,000 people showed up on Calgary’s southwest outskirts to hear Poilievre speak, making it his most attended rally since he began campaigning..Cars were backed up for two kilometers on the highway leading to Spruce Meadows..Even Poilievre was apparently stuck in the jam, starting his speech starting more than an hour late.. a-1@RealAndyLeeShow .Poilievre reminded the crowd he was born in Calgary..“I’m proud to be Alberta bound,” said Poilievre, adding he used to bike from his home in Shawnessy to Spruce Meadows, sneak in and ride in the equestrian arenas..“Canada is free and freedom is its nationality.”.“Whether we’ve been here for 300 years as a family or 30 days as a new refugee we all came here for exactly the same reason. We all came here for freedom.”.“People feel like you’re losing control of their lives because big government is taking advantage of a pandemic and use that as an excuse to expand the power of the state. And that is why we as a Conservative team are going to continue to fight tooth and nail for a permanent end to the vaccine mandates.”.Perhaps the biggest cheer was when Poilievre announced he would defund the CBC saving $1.4 billion a year..“Defund the CBC! Defund the CBC,” he led the crowd in a chant..He also repeated his pledge to allow people to use digital currency..Poilievre also gave the crowd a lesson in inflation which is hammering the country..“We’re going to counter Justinflation with common sense — that’s right common sense. We’re going to ban the Bank of Canada for printing cash to pay for politicians spending,” he said..“I just wanted to listen to hear him speak. I’ve been quite impressed with what he’s had to say so far. And we certainly need to change,” said Gloria Hyrkik, as she waited for Poilievre to speak..“(Things like) the economy — where we’re going, what he would like to do, what he is planning on doing, how he hopes to change us and make us a better country, a country of more togetherness than what we’ve been.”.“We’re hoping to see a change in government, for sure federally and I’m hoping to see some honesty.”.George Presser also wanted to hear Poilievre’s pitch..“I’m hoping he can help unify the Conservatives — bring both the right side and the center side of the Conservatives and into one group that can defeat Trudeau,” said Pressers..Chuck Collins said before the Poilievre speech that Canada needs fixing..“But I mean fixed, not just get elected and do nothing. I mean get fixed. Yeah. He’s the only man I think that’s gonna do it,” said Collins..“Because nobody else would have any guts to do it to tackle it. Everybody else is wondering about the next election. Don’t worry about the next election, do what you got to do now to fix this country. No question.”.
