Saskatchewan gas prices jumped 15 cents overnight, reaching a high of $1.78.9..Gas prices vary across the province, with some gas stations as low as $1.56.9..As of Wednesday morning, there is only a three cent difference in Moose Jaw, with the price ranging from $1.65.9 to $1.68.9. .Regina has the largest price difference at 22 cents, with the price range from $1.56.9 to $1.78.9..Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, said the reason for the 15 cent jump was oil hit $106 USD a barrel and futures are also up “substantially” which means higher oil prices for the next few months..It is now costing gas retailers about $1.65 per litre, up from $1.51 on April 11, 2022..“Gas stations had to throw in the towel as the cost of gasoline wholesale was costing them $1.65 a litre and that doesn’t include the cost to them of honouring credit cards (two to three cents/litre), staff, municipal taxes or even the electricity they have to pay to turn on the fuel pumps,” McTeague told the Western Standard..McTeague blamed the federal government for the carbon tax and for blocking pipelines attributing to the rising gas prices..“A weak Canadian dollar, thanks in no small part to the Canadian government’s enthusiasm for blocking pipelines and an 11.6 cent a litre carbon tax (with GST) doesn’t help,” said McTeague..According to McTeague, Canada solves the energy crisis, but the federal government is putting climate change policy over everything else..“You can’t tiptoe around this. Canada is the solution to the global energy crisis, but Liberal, NDP and Bloc voters have chosen to cut in our resources and are now paying a steep toll for this woke, climate hysteria, shortsightedness,” said McTeague..McTeague said the “three Prairie provinces are not predictable like the rest of Canada.”.The non-Prairie provinces did three small increases in raising their gas prices, whereas the Prairie provinces did one big increase..McTeague said it’s “a much bigger shock to people when it’s done as one big increase.”.McTeague had some good news. The usual summer gas price jump already happened in mid-April, even though the summer driving season doesn’t start for a few weeks..The average gas price at the end of February 2022 was $1.47 and at the end of March 2022, it was $1.68..The federal government added 2.2 cents of additional carbon tax on April 1, 2022, taking the price to $1.71 to start the month..When the federal government added the carbon tax, some provinces such as Ontario and Alberta provided temporary relief by reducing the provincial gas taxes..The average gas price in Calgary is $1.54.9, and in Toronto it's $1.90.9 as of Wednesday morning..In the provinces where the government did not interfere with the gas price, BC has the highest price at $2.20.9, followed by Quebec at $1.98.9..Manitoba and Nova Scotia have a similar price to Saskatchewan, with both at $1.79.9..Chris Oldcorn is a Western Standard Reporter based in Regina.,coldcorn@westernstandard.news,Twitter: @chrisoldcorn,.Parler: @chrisoldcorn
