Ontario MP Erin O’Toole on Monday threw his hat into the ring in the fight to become Tory leader..The Durham MP, and former Veterans’ Affairs minister, joins former Nova Scotia cabinet minister Peter MacKay as one of the more prominent Tories to enter the race..“We are in a battle for the heart and soul of the Conservative Party. This leadership is a contest about what kind of party we are — a party that becomes more like the Liberals, or one that believes we win when we take a principled conservative stand,” O’Toole said in a statement..In a video announcing his candidacy O’Toole said: “I’m not a product of the Ottawa bubble. I spent 10 years in the private sector and 12 years in our military, where you’re judged by who you are and the work you do, not where you came from or who you know..“It’s time Canadians have a government that fights for their needs instead of fighting for attention from global celebrities and corrupt corporate insiders.”.O’Toole also ran for the leadership in 2017, placing third behind Andrew Scheer and Maxime Bernier..The group is looking to replace Scheer, who was unable to defeat scandal-ridden Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the October federal election..The new leader will be chosen June 27 in Toronto..Earlier, Tory heavyweights Pierre Polieivre, Rona Ambrose and Jean Charest all declined to run..Dave Naylor is the News Editor of the Western Standard.dnaylor@westernstandardonline.com.Twitter: Nobby7694
