The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) ran a virtual meeting for vice-principal applicants where people were separated by race. .“It appears the new direction is to promote equity for some, but not for all,” said suspended WRDSB trustee Mike Ramsay in a Tuesday tweet. .“How does it contribute to student learning and achievement?”.Ramsay said the behaviour has to stop. .He posted a photo of an email he and fellow WRDSB trustee Cindy Watson received from a department head who described the experience. The department head said the recording was stopped towards the end of the meeting, and white and racialized people were ordered to go to separate virtual rooms. .“I was stunned,” she said. .“They basically were implying the purpose was because our ‘leadership lens’ is different depending on skin colour.”.The department head said she'd been working towards applying for the position for years, but this experience “left me questioning my decision to apply.” .She said she was sharing this information with Ramsay and Watson because they're strong advocates for removing identity politics from schools.
