A new gasoline cost reduction bill could save $190 for an average family driving a minivan or sedan over six months, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF)..The Ontario government is introducing legislation to reduce the price of fuel for residents of the province for six months..From July 1 to December 31, the cut would lower gas tax by 5.7 cents per liter and fuel tax by 5.3 cents per liter..Current gas prices are sitting at 176.8 cents per liter for regular, 201.1 cents for premium and 204.1 cents for diesel, according to the government of Ontario..The CTF is applauding the Ford government for its commitment to lower gas taxes..“This is a great day for Ontario taxpayers and it will save taxpayers a lot of money at the gas pump,” said CTF Ontario Director Jay Goldberg..“After four years of waiting, Premier Doug Ford is finally delivering on his promise to cut taxes for hardworking Ontarians.” .This isn’t the first time Ford has promised to reduce gas prices for Ontario residents..In 2018, Ford pledged to lower fuel prices..Then in 2021, Ford said he would honour his pledge to remove the gas tax before the next budget, but the budget was postponed then the reduction was not included..“While Ontario taxpayers will welcome lower gas prices at the pumps, Ford promised Ontarians four years ago they would receive a permanent gas tax cut,” said Goldberg..“So there’s work left to do on this announcement.
