Close to a dozen senators are forming a new group in Ottawa to focus on regional concerns across the country..Three Albertas senators – Scott Tannas, Doug Black and Elaine McCoy – are joining the group along with B.C.’s Larry Campbell, Robert Black of Ontario, Stephen Greene of Nova Scotia, Diane Griffin of P.E.I., David Richards of New Brunswick, Josée Verner of Quebec, Pamela Wallin of Saskatchewan and Vernon White of Ontario..In an earlier interview with the CBC, Tannas said: “I’m concerned about the vast differences when you go region to region. That to me is worrying, and that’s why I say I think we have our job cut out for us in the Senate.”.Tannas will be the leader of the new Canadian Senators Group (CSG). Members of the group come from all parties in the Senate.. McCoy is also a Calgarian..“In part, the Senate was founded to ensure regional interests were represented in Parliament, a critically important role in a country as large as ours. Members of the CSG want to see this founding principle maintained and respected so that the will of the majority does not always trump regional interests. This will keep the work of the Senate relevant to Canadians,” Tannas said it a statement..The group is seen as a greater push for a voice from the West and other areas left out of Justin Trudeau’s minority government..A Wexit independence group drew more than 750 to a rally in Edmonton Saturday night and the group has more than 30,000 Facebook groups.
