Conservative leadership candidate Leslyn Lewis said it's wrong for legacy media to claim disqualified Conservative leadership candidate Patrick Brown would deliver Conservatives the ethnic vote. .“As someone who grew up in a community filled with new Canadians and many visible minorities, let me say I'm not a victim in need of a political saviour, nor are the hard-working visible minorities of this great country,” said Lewis in a Tuesday email. .When the legacy media treats visible minorities as a single voting bloc, Lewis said it is “a shocking display of identity politics.” She said this racism runs contrary to freedom, merit, and hard work. .Lewis said the media arguing Brown can provide Conservative leadership candidate Jean Charest with the ethnic vote is “the epitome of colonial thinking they claim to hate,” she said, adding that line of thinking plays into a white saviour narrative. .She went on to say media pundits and Liberals cannot stand ethnic minorities who disagree with them. Despite being the type of politician the groups say they want, she said they ignore her. .Lewis said she raised $1.5 million and sold more memberships than she did in 2020. She claimed the media has not covered these accomplishments because she does not share their opinions and is not progressive enough. .She said this narrative is the same former Conservative leader Andrew Scheer called out CBC for in 2020 when they were “fawning over Kamala Harris being selected as the vice-presidential candidate while our party was maligned for being racist despite having my presence in the leadership race.”.Lewis said she knows she can deliver the ethnic vote. .“Because I treat people like everyone else,” she said. .“There are individuals all across Canada who come from many different backgrounds and I am able to connect with them on an authentic values level.”.This incident is similar to when Lewis condemned Liberal MP Anthony Housefather for criticizing US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for voting to overturn Roe v. Wade. .READ MORE: Lewis calls out Liberal MP for Clarence Thomas attack.“When the left can’t manipulate and control black people like Justice Thomas, they adopt racist tropes and suggest that independent-minded blacks want to go back to the days when slavery was legal,” she said. .“It’s disappointing to see an MP like @ahousefather stoop to this level.”
