Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says federal health authorities must be more transparent when they are detaining travellers and sending them to isolation facilities to be tested for COVID-19..The demands come on the heels of two cases when returning travellers to the Calgary airport were detained and whisked away in a van to isolation centres without their families being told what was going on..“There are reports of Canadians returning from abroad being directed to self isolate in airport hotels, with federal agencies failing to disclose where they will be staying. We understand the need for quarantine requirements, but ask that federal agencies be more transparent,” Kenney tweeted Monday afternoon..“People entering Canada have an obligation to inform themselves about and comply with testing and quarantine requirements. But federal agencies like CBSA and PHAC could avoid a lot of anger and confusion if they were more transparent about where people will be staying, etc..”.Pastor Chris Mathis wrote an emotional Facebook post Thursday night detailing what his wife, Nikki, had gone through when her flight from Dallas had arrived..Federal law states anyone returning to Canada must have had a negative COVID-19 test before they board their aircraft. Nikki said she went for a test in Dallas but the doctor administered the wrong one..When she landed it was determined by Public Health Agency of Canada and Canada Border Services Agency officials she had received an antigen test, not the required molecular COVID-19 test..“I was told, ‘We’re going to have to take you to a location to isolate in Calgary,’” Nikki said..She is currently waiting at the isolation centre for the results of the proper test so she can continue her trip home..Rebekah McDonald was at the Calgary airport late Saturday night to pick up her 20-year-old son, Ethan, who had been living in the US but was returning to Canada for school..But when he landed he was told he had been given the wrong COVID-19 test in the US..Her son was detained and taken to an isolation facility. Authorities refused to tell McDonald where her son was being held..In a bid to level off the number of COVID-19 cases being brought in by returning travellers, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Friday upon their arrival back in Canada, they will be taken to an isolation facility and given another coronavirus test..If testing negative after three days, they will be able to leave the government facility and finish the rest of their quarantine period at home. If positive, they are taken to another isolation location for the 14-day time frame..Trudeau said it will costs travellers about $2,000 each to cover testing, accommodations and food..The Justice Centre for Constitution Freedoms (JCCF) say they will file immediate court challenges, calling the Trudeau government’s actions unconstitutional..Dave Naylor is the News Editor of the Western Standard.dnaylor@westernstandardonline.com.TWITTER: Twitter.com/nobby7694
