The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) continues to investigate Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers for shooting a man in the city's northeast community of Coventry Hills. On Sunday, ASIRT was directed to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier the same day..At approximately 9:45 p.m., a male knocked on the door of a Coventry Hills home and told the resident he was being chased by someone. The resident did not let the man inside and called CPS.When officers arrived at the front of the residence, the man suddenly ran from the backyard toward them. The officers discharged their guns striking the man. The male was taken into custody and was immediately treated by CPS until emergency medical services arrived.According to ASIRT, the man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A large garden tool was located in the front yard, near where the male had been.The province's police watch dog is investigating and will examine the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting."No additional information will be released," ASIRT said.ASIRT said the male was in the area knocking on other doors prior to the incident.ASIRT continues its efforts to identify those who may have witnessed the male and/or aspects of this incident, and asks anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed these events and/or may have video to contact investigators at 403-592-4306.
