A 73-year-old man used a handgun to murder five residents of a condominium building in Vaughan, ON. Ontario's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and York Regional Police (YRP) are investigating the crime scene..During a press conference on Monday afternoon at York Regional Police headquarters, Chief Jim MacSween identified the shooter as Francesco Villi, who lived in the building..MacSween said police cannot identify the shooting victims at this time, but three men and two women were killed. Three of those people were members of the condo board. .A sixth victim was taken to hospital following the shooting with non-life threatening injuries, but is expected to survive. That victim is the wife of John DiNino, president of the building's condo board and president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Canada.."We are truly shocked and sorry that such an incident took place in our region," MacSween said. "We will do anything we can to support the loved ones and anyone else impacted by this heartbreaking incident.".At 7:20 pm on Sunday, police officers were called in response to a shooting in progress. MacSween said the gunman was killed during an altercation with police.."We're in the process right now of doing notifications to those families, so at this point I can't share any information on the victims or the subject," he said on Sunday..Earlier in the night, Const. Laura Nicolle said the police received a "very disturbing" weapons call shortly after the shooting began. She added the shooting has left "a lot of people" displaced from their homes as police investigate.."We want to make sure that [they] know that they're going to be safe and that we get them back into their home as quickly as we can," she said..Vaughn Mayor and former Ontario Liberal Party leader Steven Del Duca offered his condolences on Monday morning. He said flags at the city hall will be flown at half-mast, and the entire community is reeling from the shooting.."My heart goes out to the victims, their families, to the people that knew them. It's just unspeakable to imagine that has taken place here in our community," he said. ."And I want to thank all of our brave first responders for the work that they did yesterday to secure what I know must have been a very difficult situation.".In a statement posted to Twitter, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was "shocked and saddened" by the shooting. ."All of Ontario is thinking of the victims of this senseless violence and the family and friends grieving their loss," he said..It is not known whether Villi obtained the gun legally.
