Maverick Party founder and former interim leader Jay Hill said he is frustrated it sent out an email begging its members for donations. .“A fairly small number of us worked nonstop seven days a week for two years to get Maverick Party in a position where it could contest federal elections,” said Hill in a Friday interview. .“When I received that, I was very disappointed.” .Maverick called on its members on Friday to contribute more money to ensure it can function. .READ MORE: Maverick Party pleads for cash from members to keep it running.“We should all remember the Maverick Party operates solely on donations as does any political party,” said the Guiding Council of the Maverick Party. .“The fact is we are not raising enough money to keep the Maverick Party operating.” .When Maverick held its leadership race, leader Colin Krieger and former leadership candidate Tariq Elnaga assured Hill they had donors who could contribute the maximum amount..Hill said it has become clear Krieger "did not have people lined up and a plan in place to continue to grow the party.” .He said he hopes Maverick does not fold. Every time Maverick was struggling, he said he would call people who he knew and try to have them donate the maximum amount. .While it would be ideal for Krieger to have a salary like he requested, Hill said he was interim leader on a voluntary basis. He compared the early days of Maverick to the Reform Party, where people served in roles as volunteers. .He added he respects a younger leader might want a salary,"but you need a plan to get out to raise the money.” .Hill concluded by saying he has been unable to see how Krieger is going to raise money. He said he hopes he is able to generate interest to keep the party going. .“I had offered to help back in May, and he let it be known very clearly that he didn’t want my assistance,” he said.
