Two Alberta men, including one bearing a famed outlaw’s name, are facing a slew of charges following an illicit harvest of canola from a Camrose County farm and the wild rural pursuit of a grain truck ended by Mounties with a spike belt..A Tuesday press release said Bashaw RCMP received a report Wednesday about missing canola. The RCMP and Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) deployed to the area. .The release said RCMP received a report of suspicious people attempting to sell canola soon after. It said police located a vehicle and grain truck suspected in the thefts. .RCMP and CAD CRU officers arrested the driver of the vehicle in Mirror, AB. Upon searching the vehicle, officers located a loaded shotgun. .The release went on to say officers attempted to do a traffic stop with the grain truck that simply sped away from the Mounties. .Officers deployed a tire deflation device on the grain truck. With assistance of an RCMP helicopter and police dogs, the driver was arrested. .This investigation led to a stolen auger, a firearm, and a large amount of canola being recovered. .Stettler, AB, resident Jesse James Lyman MacDonald, 33, was charged with a total of 14 offences. Some of the charges include: .· Flight from peace officer.· Obstructing a peace officer.· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.· Trafficking in property obtained by crime.MacDonald was remanded into custody and will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Tuesday. .Stettler resident Tristan James Ruby, 36, was charged with a total of 16 offences, including: .· Nine counts of being unlawfully at large .· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.· Trafficking in property obtained by crime.Ruby remains in custody and will show in Red Deer Provincial Court Tuesday..Bashaw RCMP could not be reached for further comment in time for publication.
