Former People’s Party of Canada candidate Anthony Zambito had his party membership revoked after he said it had to listen to the grassroots more. .“I am no longer a member,” said Zambito in a Monday tweet. .“I am blacklisted.”.He said his emotions are mixed, but he has a few points he has to clarify. .Zambito said in an op-ed in the National Telegraph on Sunday PPC Leader Maxime Bernier put himself in the perfect position to champion causes alienated conservatives valued when he left the Conservatives. .“It’s rather unfortunate, but even though the PPC has gone through two federal elections and Maxime Bernier continues to tour across the country, it’s gone almost unnoticed that the PPC leadership team has ongoingly been alienating the same grassroots base that joined it out of frustration with the CPC (Conservative Party of Canada),” he said. .“This is true in my Ontario riding, and I know this to be true across the country.”.Zambito said he has met phenomenal PPC members in his riding and across Canada since 2018. He added he was thankful for meeting most of them. .The former candidate urged its supporters to continue fighting for the grassroots. He said people should not “let a handful of quasi-celebs tell you how politics is done.”.Zambito went on to say he does not understand why he is the first Canadian to be kicked out of the PPC. He said it would be great if the PPC, Bernier, and Executive Director Daniel Tyrie could follow up via email. .“I can't believe the champion of free speech would kick me out of his Party,” he said. .PPC spokesperson Martin Masse said Zambito “demonstrated ill will and unprofessionalism unbecoming a representative of his position in our party.” .“This openly violated the Party Pledge he signed,” said Masse. .“The Party therefore dismissed him from the role of president of the Electoral District Association of Dufferin-Caledon and revoked his membership.” .Bernier received an overwhelming show of support by PPC members during his leadership review in 2021. .READ MORE: Bernier given vote of confidence by PPC members.Tyrie said with 15,454 votes cast and a voter participation rate of 57.5%, Bernier received the support of 95.6% of members, who were asked if they support him remaining as PPC leader. .“I believe this vote signals a strong unity within our party around the principles and policies that I have been defending since its founding,” said Bernier.
