The first snowfall of the season is about to hit the southern and eastern parts of Saskatchewan..On Friday, Environment Canada (EC) issued a special weather statement that it will rain in southern Saskatchewan starting on Saturday before turning into wet snow for the rest of the weekend..“The switch from rain to snow will be gradual and will begin in southwest Saskatchewan Saturday night,” said the statement.. Winter Storm Car and Truck .The statement covers the southeastern part of Saskatchewan from as far north as Hudson Bay and west to the Alberta border..The areas included are Assiniboia, Carlyle, Estevan, Weyburn, Fort Qu’Appelle, Hudson Bay, Humboldt, Kamsack, Moose Jaw, Moosomin, Shaunavon, Swift Current, Yorkton, and around Regina..EC said most of the snow will melt because of the ground temperature..“In general, expect 2-10 cm of snow to fall by the end of the day on Sunday, with higher amounts through southcentral Saskatchewan and the Cypress Hills,” said the statement..“Strong, gusty winds will also form in the wake of this system as it moves east into Manitoba on Sunday.”.EC warned that highway visibility will be reduced and the wet snow combined with high winds could damage power lines. .The storm will have passed through Saskatchewan by Monday..“It will be out of the province by Monday at noon, so it will be a rather short-lived system,” said EC Meteorologist Terri Lang..“We’ve been having a warm, dry pattern for the last couple of months. That’s finally breaking down.”
