A Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer fatally shot an armed man in a residential area on Thursday evening..SPS was called at approximately 5:45 p.m. about a male with a firearm and possible shots fired at a residence in the 1300 block of Avenue E North..When SPS officers arrived, they heard shots fired and cordoned off the block..The Patrol and Tactical Support Unit entered a multi-unit residence attempting to “secure the safety of the other occupants in the building. They were confronted by the armed male suspect when the fatal shooting occurred.”.The SPS immediately asked the Regina Police Service (RPS) and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) to investigate, as is required with any officer-involved shooting..“In response to plans by the Saskatchewan Government to ensure greater independence in investigations into police-involved incidents, the SPS immediately requested the investigation be led by the RPS and assisted by the Saskatchewan SIRT.
