Girls Hockey Calgary (GHC) proposed taking the “girls” out of its language use in a Wednesday memo to stakeholders..A concerned parent contacted the Western Standard on Friday sharing details of a club proposal to abolish the use of the traditional gender pronouns “he,” “him,” “his,” “she,” “her,” and “hers” and replacing them with the gender non-specific “they,” “them,” and “theirs” in communications and general referencing..The parent is looking for a way to challenge the changes and said they did not agree with the policy change and thought it was not needed..The parent, who asked for anonymity, wondered if the club would be changing the gender reference in the club name and what the new logo might look like since it currently incorporates a vector image of a female player with a ponytail..
