The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section has laid charges in the death of a child that occurred in August. .EPS responded to an incident in the area of 130 Ave. and 105 St. on the report of an 18-month-old girl who was in medical distress on August 15 around noon, according to a Thursday press release. EPS said EMS responded and declared the child dead on scene. .The circumstances surrounding the child’s death appeared suspicious, and the EPS Homicide Section assumed the investigation. .The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on August 16 and determined further testing was required to establish the child’s cause and manner of death. .EPS said homicide detectives continued to investigate while working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner until the toxicology results were received. .A 27-year-old woman was charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death on Wednesday. The EPS will not be releasing the name of the accused to protect the privacy of other children in the family.
