By NANCY BOYKO.Mike Nickel has one less candidate to worry about after one of the mayor of Edmonton hopefuls dropped out of the race and endorsed him..Malik Chukwudi, a City of Edmonton engineer, made his endorsement at a Nickel rally in Edmonton Thursday night..Both Chukwudi and Nickel agreed it’s time to get rid of what they called the waste and mismanagement in administration, and that it’s time for a change..Nickel described a vote for fellow mayoral candidate, Amarjeet Sohi — who he considers to be his chief rival — as a vote for more of the same. .“Talk is cheap and actions matter. People like myself and Malik, we are people of action, and our word actually means something to us, and we plan to keep it,” Nickel said..Both also agreed crime is a central issue in the campaign, particularly in the downtown area, and in light of the tragedy that occurred earlier in the day of a father getting stabbed while walking down an Edmonton street with his daughter..Nickel also said that employers and businesses have grown increasingly confused with the health measures and the lack of consistency and clarity. The population as a whole has been “backed into fear and panic” on both sides.
