Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) President John Carpay told Rebel News Live that his organization will never submit to tyranny. .“It is better to die standing than to live on your knees,” said Carpay at the Saturday event at the Southside Victory Church in Calgary..Rebel News publisher Ezra Levant gifted Carpay with the 2022 Canadian of the Year Award. Levant said the president deserves the Order of Canada, but he will never receive it because the committee is biased. .Carpay said he is grateful for the award. It is a joint venture of Canadians who donate to the JCCF, its lawyers, paralegals, administrators, and communications team. .Carpay went on to say Canadians should never submit to tyranny by closing down churches. He said people should not submit to the tyranny of police being sent in on protestors and shooting tear gas. .The JCCF has filed a court action against the federal government for invoking the Emergencies Act in response to the Freedom Convoy protests of early 2022. Carpay said he believes the most important reason Canadians will never surrender is because they believe in the right to life, liberty, and security of the person. .The JCCF said the Crown stayed 49 charges against seven Freedom Convoy participants in August. They maintained their innocence and said freedom of peaceful assembly is essential in a healthy democracy. .Carpay also spoke about unvaccinated organ transplant patient Sheila Annette Lewis. It declined to consider her argument that her rights under the Alberta Bill of Rights were being infringed upon..Carpay said the JCCF has not been as successful as he wanted with COVID-19 cases. Win or lose, he said these court actions are “exposing the government’s lies and shedding light on the truth.” .One example he gave was former Newfoundland and Labrador premier Brian Peckford’s case against the travel mandate. He said the JCCF was able to have Canadian government officials admit under oath there was no scientific basis for the mandate. .The president said the ruling will be appealed because it was stupid. He added the ruling is “suggesting governments can turn our rights and freedoms on and off like a light switch.” .Carpay concluded by saying winners never quit and quitters never win. .“Truth always triumphs over the lie and freedom always trumps tyranny,” he said. .“We will be courageous and persevere until we win.”
