As tensions rise between Canada and the United States, Liberal Leader Mark Carney is pledging to take a firm stand against what he calls direct and aggressive actions from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Framing the upcoming federal election as a pivotal moment for the country's economic sovereignty and cultural identity, Carney says only a strong Liberal government can shield Québec and Canada from external threats while building a stronger future at home.

“A new Liberal government will never cower to President Trump’s attacks on Canada,” Carney declared. “Protecting Québec and Canada’s identity, including the French language, is an essential part of securing Canada, and this will never be on the negotiating table.”

Carney outlined a comprehensive plan he says will bolster Canada's economy, protect Québec’s cultural institutions, and insulate Canadian industries from American pressure. Central to the plan is a commitment to protect supply management during trade negotiations, ensuring Canadian farmers and jobs are not compromised.

The Liberals are also pledging a $150 million annual boost in funding for CBC/Radio-Canada, alongside permanent legislative financial support. This move, Carney says, will protect local news and amplify Québec and Canadian voices.

Support for artists and creators across the country is another priority. Increased funding is promised for national cultural institutions such as the Canada Council for the Arts, Telefilm, the Canada Media Fund, and the National Film Board.

On infrastructure, the Liberals plan to introduce Canadian-made standards for federal funding, focusing on using local steel, aluminium, and forestry products. Québec’s leading role in clean energy and materials like mass timber is highlighted as key to this strategy.

Carney’s platform includes significant investments in critical minerals, particularly in Québec, through a new First and Last Mile Fund aimed at strengthening supply chains and creating jobs. He also reaffirmed support for Canada’s six major clean energy investment tax credits and promised to streamline environmental review processes under a "One Project, One Review" policy.

Housing and national transportation projects also figure prominently in the platform. The Liberals propose over $25 billion in financing to innovative prefab housing firms and a high-speed rail line connecting Windsor to Québec City, with a stop in Trois-Rivières.

“A new Liberal government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create higher-paying jobs and lifelong careers, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7,” said Carney. “Together, we will build Canada strong.”
