Country star George Canyon is stopping his campaign to become president of the United Conservative Party even before it began..The singer — who belts out the anthem at Calgary Flames homes games — had said this week he planned to run on a platform calling on Premier Jason to immediately step down and a leadership review be held..But Western Standard sources say Canyon has decided the point is now moot since the party announced on Thursday the leadership review has been moved up to the spring. It had been scheduled to be held in the fall of 2022, only six months before the next election..“I am tired of being an armchair quarterback and figured I should do my part for the betterment of the province,” Canyon told the Calgary Sun’s Rick Bell..“I feel running for president would really be a moot point now..“As a proud Albertan, I am under the opinion, like many, that the premier should immediately go through a leadership review..“I have no personal vendetta against Mr. Kenney but the well-being of our province and its people must always come first.”
