The Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has admitted defeat with his gun grab. .“He has no plan to confiscate those guns, no plans to pay citizens for the firearms he promised to confiscate and everyone knows it,” said the CSSA in a Thursday statement. .Trudeau said in 2020 Canada would restrict 1,500 makes and models of assault-style rifles..Licensed gun owners would be barred from selling, transporting, importing or using semi-automatic guns. .There was a two-year amnesty period imposed at the time to ensure people followed the ban. People were encouraged to turn in their guns. .The Canadian government lengthened the grace period for its semi-automatic gun ban from October 30 this year to October 30, 2025 on Wednesday. .READ MORE: Canadian government extends gun grab amnesty period until 2025.“The extension of the Order will ensure affected firearm owners and businesses continue to be protected from criminal liability for unlawful possession while they come into compliance with the law, including having the opportunity to take part in the buyback program,” said Public Safety Canada (PSC). .PSC started off by saying Canadians should feel safe in their communities. That is why the Canadian government has been addressing gun violence with a plan that includes expanding firearms legislation and regulations, spending money on law enforcement and border operations and providing funding for communities to tackle the root causes of violence..The CSSA went on to say adding to Trudeau’s confusion is the one question no one in his inner circle seems willing or able to answer. That question is what does it do about Saskatchewan and Alberta. .Saskatchewan and Alberta have made it difficult for the Canadian government to confiscate firearms. .Saskatchewan Chief Firearms Officer Robert Freberg; Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety Minister Christine Tell; and Premier Scott Moe passed the Saskatchewan Firearms Act to prevent the Canadian government from confiscating firearms. .This plan was so well designed the Alberta government followed suit by passing the Alberta Firearms Act. .Alberta Chief Firearms Officer Teri Bryant, former justice minister Tyler Shandro, and Premier Danielle Smith implemented the Alberta Firearms Firewall. .The CSSA said Canadian gun owners “owe these six individuals an immense debt of gratitude for doing what many said could not be done — stop the federal government from confiscating our guns.” .It added Saskatchewan’s and Alberta’s defensive acts and Trudeau’s failure to take a single step towards his confiscation scheme likely played a huge role in his decision to push back the deadline by two years. .While Trudeau insisted these banned firearms pose a significant threat to public safety and there is no use or place for them in Canada, the CSSA said his actions “prove he doesn’t have the courage of his convictions.” .By the time his latest amnesty period expires, these firearms will have been stored in the gun safes of their owners for more than five years. .If these firearms are such a threat to public safety, the CSSA asked why the Canadian government is admitting defeat by postponing the deadline until after the next election. .“Because this was never about public safety,” it said. .“This was always about politics.”
