The Village Square Mall in Calgary barred high school students from entering the space during the day. .“The students of Lester B. Pearson High School and Clarence Sansom School are not allowed in Village Square Mall from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (as of Saturday),” said the property management group in a statement. .“There will be a security guard at each entrance door to monitor progress and to ask the students to leave the property.” .The statement said students who refuse to leave the property will be reported to their school’s constable. It said these students can be fined and charged with trespassing. .High school student Aaliyah Whitman-Samir told Global News the ban has made students not “have anywhere to go and that was kind of our place.”.“I feel like we had more options and now we’re kind of limited to certain options,” said Whitman-Samir. .Van’s Cafe owner Tann Van said the ban will be bad for business. Van’s Cafe has been serving hundreds of teenagers lunch daily for almost one decade, but the restaurant is now empty and food goes to waste. .“We cook, but we cannot sell,” said Van. .“Usually this time lunch time, a lot of kids come in, very busy, today, nothing.”.Village Square employee Hapreet Singh said he's satisfied with the ban, as students were damaging the mall. .“Every week there was police coming over, fire alarms, broken chairs, broken windows, broken doors,” said Singh. .“There was a lot.” .Singh said he worked in the mall for about six years, and the ban made it a different atmosphere. He said it has never been so calm and quiet.
