More bullets will fly and innocent people could become caught in the crossfire in the wake of the execution of the leader of Calgary's notorious FOB gang, warns a criminologist..The assassination took place Friday at the home of Trong Nguyen, 477 Boulder Creek Way, in Langdon, east of Calgary..Mount Royal University criminologist Kelly Sunberg said the blame for the ongoing gang violence can be laid directly at the feet of the justice system.."Whenever we see conflicts like this it is inevitable there would be an escalation and innocent bystanders could be shot and killed," he said.."There's no doubt there will be retaliation.. Nguyen assassination .Nguyen was released from prison in April after being convicted in 2012 of conspiracy to commit murder and counselling an indictable offence which was not committed..Nguyen was convicted on previous charges, including firearms offences, assault of a peace officer and failing to comply with his release conditions."It's the fault of the loud mouth woke idiots running the justice system," Sunberg told the Western Standard.Sunberg pointed to the recent case of Myles Sanderson who went on a killing spree on a Saskatchewan First Nation, killing 11 people, including his own brother. Sanderson faced dozens of charges and was wanted on numerous warrants at the time of the massacre."How many others (like Sanderson) are we going to see going through the revolving doors of the justice system," asked Sunberg. He said "overburdened" police forces work diligently to arrest gangbangers on serious charges, only to see them given slaps on the wrist by the courts."There is a serious crisis at the moment in our justice system — there needs to be a provincial task force struck to look into it," he said.Video of the shocking Nguyen shooting, obtained by the Western Standard, shows Nguyen's vehicle hesitate momentarily before pulling in the driveway.Moments later two gunman appear on the driver's side of the car and open fire with a fusillade of bullets. A masked man with an automatic weapon shot through the driver's window, while another gunman opened fire from the rear.A woman is shown escaping out of the passenger's side as seen in the video, which appears to be shot from a garage surveillance camera. After the shooting, the gunman with the automatic weapon is shown crawling underneath the rear of the car. Police sources said that was likely to retrieve a tracking device attached to the car, showing the extreme planning in the crime. The pair then escape to a waiting black pickup truck, which was later found abandoned, engulfed in flames.Sunberg said it's a "grave error" to underestimate the sophistication of today's gangs, and point to the use of a tracking device in this case. After his conviction in 2012, Nguyen said he planned to leave his criminal life behind.“I wish you good luck,” said then Justice Beth Hughes at Nguyen’s 2018 sentencing.“I truly hope you will continue with your rehabilitation that you’ve started.”After serving part of a six-year sentence for shooting rival gang member Vinh Trug Truong, Nguyen was released from prison in 2011. He then attempted to kill Truong again in 2012.The two rival gangs — FOB and FOB Killers (FK) — clashed violently in bloody gang wars on Calgary streets between 2002 and 2009 leaving 25 people dead.Sunberg is a former Canadian Border Services Agency officer who was involved in the deportation of several known gangsters, including the notorious Jackie Tran, of Calgary."I used to arrest them. Now I study them," said Sunberg.
