Five Brampton, Ont., city councillors condemned Conservative leadership candidate and Brampton mayor Patrick Brown and four of their colleagues for refusing to attend a Wednesday council meeting, “shutting down city business, bringing it to a grinding halt.” .“When Patrick Brown and his council followers don’t get their own way, they resort to tactics that put democracy under siege,” said the five city councillors in a Wednesday statement..The statement said they were hoping to appoint a person to fill a seat vacated by former Brampton city councillor Charmaine Williams. Williams was elected as an Ontario Progressive Conservative MPP in the latest Ontario election. .The councillors said residents of Williams’s ward will not have a new city councillor because Brown and four of his council colleagues refused to show up. .The statement said Brown’s latest evidence of wrongdoing is having Brampton City Hall staff working on his campaign. .Rebel News was tipped off by a source that Brown was running a campaign office in Vaughan, Ont. .Senior City of Brampton employees were working out the office while allegedly being paid by the city. .Other senior City of Brampton employees were travelling across Canada with Brown and allegedly stayed on the municipal payroll. .The city councillors said this incident came as “no surprise to us and members of the public who have watched for four years as the media have reported on irregularities in hiring and procurements.” .Brampton City Council ordered financial forensic audits and procurement audits be conducted into Brown, with results to be reported in the next 60 days..If Brown and his four colleagues are not held accountable, the councillors said “they will continue to use this abusive tactic of not showing up to council meetings to avoid the results of important audits and investigations from being made public.” .“Patrick Brown is ignoring his obligation to taxpayers and the City of Brampton,” they said. .“He continues to take the residents and taxpayers of our city for granted.” .Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre’s press secretary Anthony Koch mocked Brown for what the councillors said. .“Not only is Patrick’s CPC Leadership campaign a complete and utter disaster, now Brampton city council has turned on him for his numerous scandals as mayor,” said Koch. .“If I were him, I’d drop out and focus on trying to save what I already have (Brampton).”.Brown campaign spokesperson Chisholm Pothier said he remains confident his candidate will win. .“I love the smell of desperation in the morning,” said Pothier..“Smells like Victory!”.He went on to accuse Poilievre of being helped by Huawei.
