Ten Calgary city councillors filed a notice of motion to require the city have an aerial fireworks display for Canada Day like it has in the past. .“And whereas administration announced on 2023 May 18 its decision to not offer a fireworks display as part of this year’s celebration,” said the city councillors in a Thursday motion. .“Now therefore be it resolved that council direct administration to include an aerial fireworks display as part of the City’s 2023 Canada Day celebrations provided that it can be achieved within existing budgets.” .The 10 councillors who sponsored the motion were Sonya Sharp, Jennifer Wyness, Jasmine Mian, Sean Chu, Raj Dhaliwal, Terry Wong, Andre Chabot, Evan Spencer, Dan McLean, and Peter Demong. They comprise enough votes to pass it. .Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek did not comment on the motion.
